Lawrence Wayne, President and Conference Director of the Memphis Black Writers Conference & Southern Film Festival with Barnes & Noble Communtiy Relations Manager Angela Grisby. "This has been the greatest event ever since I've been manager of this store!" beamed Ms. Grisby. She added,"Rosalyn McMillan was fantastic, Dr. Reginald Martin gave writers tons of valuable information, Thelma Balfour was dynamic, and Anfra had a lot to say about self-publishing."

Black Writers members participating included: Rosalyn McMillan (The Flip Side Of Sin); Thelma Balfour (Black Love Signs); Dr. Reginal Martin (Everybody Knows What Time It Is); Alice Faye Duncan (Willie Jerome); Anfra Boyd (You Are My Sister); and Lawrence Wayne (How To Encourage Young African American Children To Read).

Rosalyn McMillan was recently featured in Ebony Magazine as one of the 50 Most Beautiful People in the country. Rosalyn had just come off of a nationwide book tour and agreed to join the panel for this great event. We didn't know at the time, but it was Robbie's birthday. What a trooper!

Rosalyn's book, 'The Flip Side Of Sin', is one of the four books selected for our Book Club Read-In during the 5th Annual Black Writers Conference (April 20-22, 2001). The other books are: 'Liar's Game' by Eric Jerome Dickey; 'Dark Matters edited by Sheree R. Thomas; and 'Everybody Knows What Time It Is' by Dr. Reginal Martin.

Children's author Alice Faye Duncan brought her knowledge of the children's book world. Alice deals with children everyday in the Memphis City School system. She is in a great position to write books for children.

Alice authored 'Everyday People', 'Willie Jerome', and 'Miss Viola and Uncle Ed Lee'. She recently married and was fresh off of the honeymoon when she joined the panel. We wish you the best Alice to the both of you.

Thelma Balfour author of 'Black Sun Signs' and 'Black Love Signs' brought her unique and profound knowledge of the publishing world to the panel. Thelma talked about her experiences as a first time author and the realities of the payment system, especially the royalities. She says, "If you get a book deal, don't spend all of your money and don't quit your day job until you have established yourself."

Thelma had a wealth of information and was more than willing to share with the packed crowd. She is a great panelist and we need to take this show on the road.
